DANCE + MUSIC are MAG(net)IC
An improvisation laboratory focusing on connections and intersections, intrinsic and otherwise, between sound and motion, dance and music, the body and the senses, and how these relationships, conscious and otherwise, influence and instigate the imagination and creative process. There is sacred geometry, directional and energetic momentum, sympathetic visceral response and more in relationship to sound that the body relates to on myriad levels of perception and action. There is something unique and potent experienced and transmitted when the instruments of the body and the music meet and collaborate to communicate, make space, grapple with complexity, build structure, ignore each other, etc. Explore subtle, graphic, natural, cinematic and atmospheric aural landscapes as inspiration for movement. Test intention, attention, tension, resistance and counterpoint within different sonic arenas. Reckon with internal aural influences, sound waves, silence, spatial trajectories, time warps and dramatic vectors. Listen, tune, talk, jam and generate scores and material in the moment.
An alternative contemporary dance class and ongoing research towards a general unified theory of the act of motion from internal impulse to external expression, deeply informed by live, original music. The work utilizes a hybrid of forms to activate deep awareness and understanding of the body and the body in motion, motivated by multiple meanings of guts, including viscera, center of gravity, courage, instinct, intuition, revelation and vulnerability. The practice is a progression of energy cultivation, hands-on investigation, somatic improvisation, technical experiments and methods of falling, flying and inversion, culminating in dynamic, 3-dimensional phrase work. The class is an intimate and animated arena for physical and artistic exploration focused on sensate virtuosity, kinetic efficiency, physical perception, interactive intelligence and performance-level dancing.

Programming includes an annual FRESH Festival and ongoing classes at ODC School and LINES in San Francisco.
